The TV Shows I Watched in 2024

I have an on off relationship with TV shows. There are some years where I watch liked up to ten plus then years like last year where I only watched (to some type of completion. At least finished a season) three. There are so many I need to get to this year, but I did want to talk about the three that I did watch cause at least two of those I absolutely loved. This list excludes any reality tv/competition shows cause honestly those are just my brain off enjoy watches and I will rarely ever have much to say about them and I at least watched a full season of everything below.

#3. From (Season 1 & 2)

Episodes: 10 (S1), 10 (S2) – Created by: John Griffin – Directed by: Various– Genre(s): Science fiction, Horror – Trailer – Release Year: 2022 (S1), 2023 (S2)

This show has a very interesting premise. A town of people somehow trapped within this forest that they can’t escape and at night these human looking monsters spawn and try to kill/eat them. The first few episodes have so much intrigue and an amazing atmosphere. And before I state my next point, there are a few over arching mysteries that hooked me enough to maybe eventually see where they go (I only watched the first two seasons) but honestly, with all of that being said. This is one of the worst shows Ive ever watched in my life. That great atmosphere is quickly lost when all the characters start acting like idiots. It’s hard to care about the mystery when the dialogue is so god awful. “I don’t have time to explain.” Is a common trope in all media and it’s an easy way to withhold information from other characters. While it is frustrating, if used sparingly, it’s whatever. I can’t remember how many times this show did that with the exact same characters and Id just stare at my screen in disbelief because they could’ve and should’ve told them. The dialogue is so bad, sometimes the acting is just flat, and scenarios that these characters get into become downright stupid as the show goes on. It sucks to say cause I saw so much promise in this show initially but genuinely I walked away from season 2 hating myself for even watching this show.

#2. Smiling Friends (Season 1 & 2)

Episodes: 9 (S1), 10 (S2) – Created/Directed by: Michael Cusack
Zach Hadel – Genre(s): Animated sitcom, Absurdist surreal comedy, Black comedy – Trailer – Release Year: 2022 (S1), 2024 (S2)

I heard a lot about smiling friends the past few years and I finally gave it a go. I meed more. The episodes are short and sweet and there’s only two seasons so far, but I’m here for the ride. This was hilarious, heart warming at times, and the animation style and different styles implemented were great. It’s a very refreshing adult animation.

#1. Interview With The Vampire (Season 1 & 2)

Episodes: 7 (S1), 8 (S2) – Created by: Rolin Jones – Directed by: Various – Genre(s): Gothic horror, Gothic romance, Southern Gothic, Vampire drama, Dark fantasy – Trailer – Release Year: 2022 (S1), 2024 (S2)

I’ll try to keep this short because I could talk about this show all day. Its complex themes of relationships, race, loneliness, self worth, sexuality, etc. Its dynamic character relationships and some of the best acting I’ve ever watched in my life. This is one of those shows/adaptions that goes beyond the source material. It is greater than what is based on and what came before. Watching this story unravel episode by episode with its amazing framing, exceptional direction, and probably the best dialogue I have ever experienced in my 24 years of life, was such a treat. This is a special piece of media that isn’t popular enough. There almost hasn’t been a day since I watched that first episode a year ago that this show hasn’t crossed my mind. It is one of my favorite things ever, and I need to find the time again this year to rewatch it. I highly recommend anyone watch it. It is some of the best media ever.
